WebPartZone1_1
PublishingPageContent

Purpose

To assist schools with the costs of wages for personnel engaged in the role of individual travel support (school arranged) for students with a disability. Schools need to be approved for this form of assistance through the school transport assistance program for students with disability procedure (PDF, 400KB).

Travel is between the approved transport location and school at the start and end of their school day.

Duration of program

Ongoing

Eligibility

All Queensland state schools with eligible students who have been approved for individual travel support for a medical or safety reason (school arranged) through the school transport assistance program for students with disability procedure may receive funding.

Where all other stakeholder (other than school) sources for individual travel support personnel have been exhausted, approval of individual travel support (school arranged) for students with a disability authorises the school to engage 1 or more suitable persons to undertake this role (as defined in the procedure).

Where necessary, a suitable person may be employed should the school not have an existing suitable person with available work hours.

Allocation of funds

Individual travel support personnel (school arranged) duties are identified as teacher aide duties. Engagement of staff to undertake these duties requires consideration of maximisation options.

Teacher aide hours worked (meeting the 2-hour minimum engagement requirements) are charged to the available school-purchased funds fortnightly through the same payroll system as all centrally funded staff. Morning and afternoon travel are treated as separate engagements.

Funding is based on actual wages incurred, including travel undertaken prior to being informed of the student absence.

Each month in the school year the wages were incurred, after the Salary Recoveries process is completed, school claims are submitted to School Transport (central office).

Payment details

Payments to schools are made in the next available monthly School Appropriation Payments Application (SAPA) run, following the review and approval of submitted claims.
