Purpose
To assist schools and institutes in expanding the breadth and depth of their Vocational Education and Training (VET) in schools programs to ensure students successfully progress to further education, training or employment.
Duration of program
Ongoing
Eligibility
These payments are provided to schools and institutions which are Registered Training Organisations (RTOs).
Allocation of funds
There are 4 payments to support VET. Allocation is determined as follows:
VET—School-based Apprenticeships and Traineeships (SATs)
Payments are made to state schools with students in the senior phase of learning. Payments are calculated in two parts, a forecast payment and an adjustment payment:
- forecast payment: a forecast of the SATs commencements expected for the current calendar year based on the previous calendar year's actual SATs commencements
- adjustment payment: an adjustment to the previous calendar year's forecast payment. This payment is the full funding eligible in that year, less the previous calendar year's advance payment.
For example, if in the previous year there were 18 commencements remaining active or completed, one commencement subsequently cancelled or withdrawn, and the advance payment paid in that year was $4,800, the following payments would apply this year:
- forecast payment: $5,700 (19 x $300)
- adjustment payment: $4,500 (18 x $500, plus 1 x $300, minus the previous year's advance payment of $4,800).
Occasionally, where student numbers decrease significantly, the advance payment paid in the previous year may be more than the full payment the school was entitled to. In these cases, the difference will be recouped.
VET—Certificates
Payments are based on previous calendar year VET certificate completions as follows:
- base payment of $700 per school
- payment of $10 per Certificate I completion
- payment of $20 per Certificate II completion
- payment of $40 per Certificate III and IV completion.
VET—Special schools
Payments are based on special schools with a scope of registration to deliver VET programs to students. Payment rates are $2,000 per eligible special school per annum.
The Special Education Training Alliance (SETA) which is the official Registered Training Organisation (RTO) for some Queensland special schools will be paid directly to deliver VET in Schools programs on behalf of partner schools.
VET—Coordination and career enhancement
Payments are from a fixed budget and are based on:
- a base payment of $150 per school or institute (e.g. TAFE, Agricultural Colleges and Detention Centres)
- a per capita payment, based on total student enrolments, of
- $2.50 per student (non P–10 schools)
- $5.00 per student (P–10 schools, special schools, detention centres)
- $2.50 per FTE (TAFE, Agricultural Colleges) (1FTE = 500 Annual Hours Curriculum)
- any remaining funds are distributed to each sector (state schools, Catholic schools, Independent schools, and TAFE and Agricultural colleges) according to total student enrolments or FTE. Each sector's portion is then distributed to individual schools and institutes according to VET activity (certificate completions). P–10 schools, special schools and schools in detention centres do not receive this payment.

Recoupment process
Under the VET – SATs component, an advance payment is made based on previous calendar year SATs commencements, as an estimation of the SATs commencements expected for the current calendar year. Occasionally, where student numbers decrease significantly, the advance payment paid in the previous year may be more than the full payment the school was entitled to. In these cases, the difference will be recouped.
How to apply
Schools do not need to apply for this funding. Entitlements are automatically calculated each year by State Schools Division and paid to schools.
