Partnership and Educational Precincts Initiatives

​Purpose

Place-based approaches to school improvement and community development promote whole-of-government partnerships and leverage local strengths to give every child and young person the best opportunities to succeed.

The Partnership and Educational Precincts Initiatives are 2 actions of the Equity and Excellence education strategy that are integrating planning, design and delivery of education across schools, early years services and community partners to respond to the changing needs of communities.

Dedicated educational precincts will offer a network approach to schooling, where schools in a geographical location benefit from collective planning and sharing of staffing, facilities and other resources to sustainably deliver more strategic and efficient approaches to education in a broad community context.

The Partnership Initiative acknowledges there are a small number of Queensland schools that require higher levels of co-ordinated support and strengthened whole-of-government approaches to deliver effective local responses to community challenges and opportunities.

A selection of Partnership Initiative schools require flexibility in funding to allow them to adopt approaches tailored to the unique characters and challenges of state schools in remote and isolated communities.

There are 4 components to the appropriation:

• strategic planning for Partnership Initiative schools
• capability development for School and Community Partnership Facilitator (SCPF) positions in a Partnership Initiative school
• differentiated approaches to improving student outcomes and community engagement with Partnership Initiative schools
• educational precinct establishment funding.

Duration of program

July 2023 to June 2027

Eligibility

State schools identified for inclusion in the Partnership and Educational Precincts Initiatives.

Allocation of funds

Strategic planning—$10,000 per Partnership Initiative school

Capability development—$12,000 per Partnership Initiative school with a SCPF

Educational precinct establishment funding—up to $50,000 for one base-school in each Educational Precinct

An additional, one-off payment of $5,200,000 will be made to nominated Partnership Initiative schools. Amounts ranging from $400,000 to $600,000 will be provided to 9 schools to cover costs associated with establishing FlexiSpaces. This includes funding for building refurbishment and the first year of additional teacher full-time equivalents (FTE). This funding would be disbursed in 2024, with schools responsible for ongoing FTE costs.

The schools nominated include Woorabinda State School, Normanton State School, Mornington Island State School, Cloncurry State School, Cherbourg State School, Murgon State High School, St George State High School, Cunnamulla State School and Tagai State College.

A one-off payment of $65,000 was made to Tagai State College in May 2024 to fund an AO5 position for 6 months piloting a differentiated approach to Local Accommodation Committee (LAC) management as part of the Partnerships and Educational Precincts initiative.

How to apply

For funding for differentiated approaches to improving student outcomes and community engagement, submissions are made through school supervisors and decision making and m​anagement of access to funds with the Executive Director, Partnership and Educational Precincts Initiatives (PEPI).
