State schools receive departmental funding to operate, maximise student outcomes and realise locally determined improvement agendas aligned with Equity and Excellence. The school performance policy articulates the requirements for school performance planning, monitoring, reviewing and reporting processes. This includes the effective, efficient and appropriate allocation of human, physical and financial resources as part of the school’s budgeting process.

The school performance procedure assists schools to enact the school performance policy, providing step-by-step processes and detailing the responsibilities for individuals and teams.

Budgets

The School Budget Solution (SBS) has been developed for all Queensland state schools. It is a secure online tool which enables the management of all school resources, including finance and staffing allocations, in one place using streamlined processes.

The SBS comprises a finance section, a staffing section and a forecasting section. This will help school leadership teams make decisions about the best use of all of their resources so they can maximise student outcomes and ensure the good operation of the school.

Further enhancement will give greater transparency and understanding about future school resourcing so decisions about its use can be better matched to school needs over the short, medium and longer terms.

For further information, see the Department of Education website.

Funding

Payments to state schools from state funding are made through the School Appropriation and Budget Application (SABA) administered by School Financial Resourcing, Finance Branch.

For further information, see the Department of Education website.

Grants and appropriations

State schools, non-state schools, parents and students, and other organisations servicing the needs of students are eligible to apply for a grant.

Scholarships

The department also offers a range of scholarships to school leavers, post-graduate students, departmental employees and employees in the early childhood education and care sector. Some scholarships are also available to post-school applicants. From time to time, additional scholarships may be offered.

For further information, see the Department of Education website.
