While school attendance is primarily the responsibility and legal obligation of parents, schools across Queensland are implementing a range of creative, interesting, and successful strategies that are having an impact on improving attendance. Some of these strategies are specifically focussed on attendance. Others have been designed to enhance teaching, learning, and the overall quality of the school environment, with flow-on benefits for attendance.
These case studies are provided to share ideas. School communities should consider a range of factors before deciding if any of these ideas might be useful in the local context including: the priorities of the school, local needs, reasons for absences, the age of students, level of parental interest, geographical location, and social and economic circumstances of the school community.
