Purpose
To assist schools in the enhancement of opportunities for rural and remote students and staff to engage with arts education. The program is delivered in partnership with the Queensland Art Gallery and Gallery of Modern Art (QAGOMA).
Each year, the program includes a workshop with arts educators, student workshop, visiting artist in residence, residential program for rural and remote First Nations students, and arts resources for small rural and remote schools.

Eligibility
Rural and remote state schools participating in the Rural and Remote arts education program.
Allocation of funds
The Rural, Remote and Strategic Initiatives team will invite schools located in rural and remote locations to participate in arts programs delivered in partnership with QAGOMA. Schools eligible to receive appropriation payments are those which have incurred travel-related expenses.
School entitlements – Participating schools will be reimbursed through appropriation payments for travel-related costs (e.g. transport, accommodation and meal costs) and will receive Teacher Relief Scheme (TRS) costs to cover a replacement for teachers who travel to program activities.

Recoupment policy
Funds are paid based on costs incurred by schools to access program activities. Recoupment may be sought where costs are amended as a result of emergent staff or student absences.
How to apply
Process – The process will be as follows:
- Rural and Remote team invites rural and remote schools to participate in the program.
- Schools accept the invitation, organise travel and pay all travel-related costs associated with accessing program activities.
- Schools seek reimbursement of costs by providing appropriate evidence of expenditure (e.g. invoices, receipts, catering costings and TRS days) by email to
ruralandremote@qed.qld.gov.au.
- Rural and Remote team review evidence of expenditure, calculate TRS costs based on appropriate daily rate and seek Director approval for payment.
- Approved costs are reimbursed to schools in the next available SAPA pay run.
Schools are to provide evidence (e.g. invoices, receipts, catering costings and TRS days) as soon as practicably possible and within the same financial year as the cost has been incurred.
