There are no record-keeping or reporting requirements for
Category 1 animal use activities. Animals in this category should
not be included in the animal use statistics report.
Schools must keep records relating to their
use of animals for scientific purposes for 7 years for audit purposes. A comprehensive list of record, correspondence and report requirements is provided by the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries (DAF) at recordkeeping for investigators and teachers.
A school based animal activity register is provided by the Queensland Schools Animal Ethics Committee (QSAEC) as a guide for schools. All applications, activity notifications, responses from QSAEC and reports should be stored with this register and be available on request by animal welfare investigators and QSAEC site inspectors.

To maintain registration as a Scientific User with DAF

To maintain animal ethics approval granted by QSAEC for a specific activity NB: If the QSAEC does not receive all relevant reports, the approval is no longer valid. The QSAEC has the authority to investigate any unapproved use of animals for scientific purposes in Queensland schools and to ensure that the activity ceases immediately and/or remedial action is undertaken. |
