The
National Assessment Program — Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) is a series of national tests to assess the skills of Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 students in numeracy, reading, writing, spelling, punctuation and grammar. These tests provide information on how all students are performing against national benchmarks. They are held each year in all schools across Australia.
The literacy and numeracy tests form a key part of the
National Assessment Program.
The
Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA) is responsible for the overall management of the Australian National Assessment Program, in collaboration with representatives from all states and territories and non-government school sectors.
The
Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority (QCAA) coordinates the administration, marking and reporting for Queensland.
NAPLAN is moving online
NAPLAN tests were undertaken by Queensland students for the first time in May 2008. These paper-based tests are moving to online assessments. Moving to
NAPLAN Online will result in faster turnaround of information and more precise results through a tailored test design.

ACARA has released the
NAPLAN Online public demonstration site providing parents, students and teachers with the opportunity to become familiar with the type of items they may see in NAPLAN Online. These questions cover just a sample of possible items and so do not reflect the range of curriculum content or skills that the NAPLAN online will cover.
