Program overview
The flagship Middle Leader program provides targeted professional development to current middle leaders. The program develops and strengthens the knowledge, skills and dispositions of middle leaders to empower them to excel in their role.
The flagship program is aligned to the
Professional Standards for Middle Leaders and is designed to support middle leaders to positively impact student achievement, engagement and wellbeing.
Target audience
Current middle leaders committed to enhancing their professional expertise to maximise student outcomes and realise the potential of every student.
Middle leaders may come from a range of roles including (but not limited to):
- heads of department
- heads of special education
- heads of year
- guidance officers.
All applicants must hold permanent positions as teachers or school leaders in the Queensland Department of Education, with a current middle leadership status classification of Stream 2 (Class H01-H02).
Objectives
This program will:
- strengthen the knowledge, skills and dispositions of middle leaders to effectively lead teams, develop learning cultures and enhance teaching and learning
- build the professional expertise and confidence of middle leaders to deliver Equity and Excellence in Queensland state schools
- promote and sustain the health and wellbeing of middle leaders by cultivating professional networks and collaboration.
Structure
Over a 12-month period, participants will engage in:
- two 3-day residential workshops
- mentoring, including site visits
- elected, self-paced learning modules
- collaborative inquiry
- network learning opportunities.
