If your child’s school uses QParents, each parent whose contact details are recorded by the school should receive an invitation to register as QParents Account Owners (QPAOs). This invitation will include a unique code that will allow you to register with QParents.

Initial registration must be completed on a computer, laptop or tablet. You can use the QParents app on a mobile device once registered.

The parent must be someone associated with a student in OneSchool (the department's student records database) in order to be invited to register as a QPAO and add the student to their account.

The QParents modules available to QPAOs (e.g. Consent Management, Attendance, Finance) are determined by the school.

Registration

Creating a QParents account requires you to complete a 4-step registration process. The registration fact sheet for parents includes further details and a list of documents you can use to verify your identity online.

Please note:

  • Registration must be completed on a personal computer and not a mobile device.
  • Progress during the registration process cannot be saved.
  • Have all your relevant identification documents ready before you begin.

Read the following steps or watch the videos for demonstrations of the registration process.

Process

Step 1: Enter the invitation code

You must receive an invitation email or letter from your child's school with your unique invitation code before you can complete this step.

If you received an email invitation

  1. Select the link to register. This will open QParents with your invitation code already entered.
  2. Select next.

If you received a printed invitation

  1. Visit QParents and select register.
  2. Enter the unique invitation code.
  3. Select next.

Step 2: Verify your identity

After accepting the terms and conditions of use of QParents, you will need to verify your identity by completing an identification check. The registration fact sheet for parents contains a list of the accepted documents and their point values.

You can still register for QParents if you cannot verify 100 points of identity documents online but you will need to present documentation at your child's school after you have registered and added student/s. Refer to I don't have enough ID for further information.

Step 3: Create a QParents account

You will be required to create a QParents account using an email address as your account name. That email address will need to be confirmed before your account is activated. Only 1 QParents account may be created per email address. If you share an email address with another parent and both wish to register, you will need separate email addresses for each account. Passwords must be at least 8 characters long and contain a combination of uppercase, lowercase, numerical and special characters.

You may also provide a mobile number for QParents to verify your identity (in which case, the app will send you an SMS code to access QParents). You can also choose to receive security codes via email (rather than SMS). Refer to changing a phone number, email address or password for further information.

Step 4: Add your child

You now need to add the student to your account. You will need to know your child's EQ ID to do this. Refer to I don't know my child's EQ ID for help with finding the EQ ID.

Enter the EQ ID, then select the student's current year level and school name from the drop-down list to add a student.

After completing these steps, your request to create a QParents account will be sent to your child's school for final approval.

I don't have an invitation but I want to register

QParents is an optional resource available to any Queensland state school. Schools may choose to use QParents depending on the needs of their community.

Contact your child's school to find out if they are using QParents. If they are a QParents school, discuss that you would like to be invited to register.

My child's school sent me an invitation but I haven't received it

Your child's school may send you an invitation by email or printed letter. Contact the school to confirm how your invitation was sent.

  • If your invitation was sent by printed letter, ask the school to provide you with another copy.
  • If your invitation was sent by email, ask the school to resend the email invitation.

If the school advised they have sent you an email invitation but you have not received it, try these troubleshooting steps:

  • Confirm with the school that they have the correct email address recorded for you.
  • Check your junk and spam folders.
  • Add no.reply@qparents.qld.edu.au as a trusted sender.

If you still have not received your email invitation, contact the school as they can manually provide you with your unique invitation code.

I don't have enough ID

You can still register for QParents if you cannot verify 100 points of documentation online but you will need to present the documentation in person at your child's school after you have registered.

To register using this option, begin the QParents registration process as normal and verify any identity documents you are able to online. There is an option on the lower left side of the screen that says 'not enough ID?'. Select this to continue the registration process without verifying 100 points of ID online. You can use this option even if you have not verified any identity documents online.

You should then complete the remaining steps in the registration process and add student/s to your account. You will receive an email with information about what documents you will need to present in person at your child's school.

I can't get to my child's school to verify my ID in person

If you registered for QParents but were unable to verify 100 points of documentation online, you will receive an email with information about what documents need to be presented to your child's school in person. If you are unable to attend your child’s school in person, contact the school to discuss alternate options.

My ID is not validating online

Refer to the registration fact sheet for parents for a list of documents you can use to verify your identity online.

Verifying the accepted documents

The most common problems encountered when validating Australian-issued identity documents online are with birth and marriage certificates. This is because there are so many different variations of these certificates across different time periods and different states in Australia. Some tips to help are below.

  • Double-check that you have selected the right type of certificate (choose the time period that matches your certificate).
  • Make sure you have entered your name as it appears on the certificate, not your current name (if it is different).
  • Make sure you are using a full birth certificate, not an extract. A birth certificate extract cannot be used as an identity document when registering for QParents.
  • Select the question mark icon next to a field for more information. This will display a sample picture showing where on your document you can find the required information.

If you are still having trouble, try using a different document. Alternatively, you are also able to continue your registration with less than 100 points of online identity documents and present documents in person at your child's school.

I already have an account but I received a new invitation for a different child

Refer to adding children to an account for further information.

Receiving an invitation to be a QParents Delegated Viewer

A QPAO can invite a person to become a QParents Delegated Viewer. An invitation email will be sent from QParents to the nominated person informing them that the QPAO has invited them to view a student's information. A link in the email allows the nominee to accept the invitation.

The nominee must be registered as a QParents user to view a student’s details in QParents. Once the invitation is accepted, the new student is added to the nominee’s QParents home page.

The QParents Delegated Viewer is only able to view student information that the QPAO makes available. The Delegated Viewer will need to create a QParents account if they don't already have one.
