All Queensland state schools are committed to meeting the learning needs of students who are gifted.

Each region receives funding to support gifted education and develop strategies that best meet the needs of students and teachers in their local area.

The Department of Education has many awards, programs and initiatives to recognise students who demonstrate outstanding talents and show potential in academic and extracurricular activities.

Queensland Academies

To improve opportunities for senior students, the Department of Education has established the Queensland Academies which accelerate learning opportunities for Queensland's high achieving students in Years 10, 11 and 12. More information can be found on the Queensland Academies website.

An evaluation was undertaken to explore the outcomes of the academies. A summary of the government response to the recommendations and a full copy of the evaluation are available for download.
