Our world and the way we live, learn and work is constantly changing, and our students' lives are being transformed by real world local and global issues that impact how they live and learn, who they interact with and how they see themselves and their place in the world.
The department is committed to developing globally competent school communities and ensuring our students thrive as the creators and custodians of our collective future as they adapt to and address a variety of challenges and opportunities.
This complex landscape highlights the importance of developing the knowledge, cognitive and social emotional skills and values and attitudes that enable us to make sense of and improve our world, no matter who are or where we live.
The need to educate for global competence
As our students continue their education and progress into the workforce in a rapidly changing, interconnected world, they will be responding to and addressing ongoing local and global issues including human rights and social cohesion, global movement of people and goods, health pandemics, climate change, integration of artificial intelligence and rapid political and economic shifts.

Global Competence Framework
As part of our commitment to preparing our students for the future, and to support our vision for equity and excellence, we have developed a Global Competence Framework that acts as a reflective tool for schools to embed global competence into their everyday curriculum.
The framework supports schools to set their own strategic vision and tangible steps for the way forward and includes helpful information, case studies and vlogs that highlight how some of our schools have embraced global competence. Schools may choose to prioritise focusing on one element or creatively encompass all four of the overarching elements of the framework.
Queensland state schools can access additional supporting resources for implementing the framework by searching for 'Global Competence Framework' on OnePortal.
