Digital learning is an important part of contemporary schooling. All learning areas in the Australian Curriculum include aspects of Digital learning. Digital Literacy is a general capability across all learning areas and Digital Technologies is a specific learning area.
Many schools implement 1-to-1 student device programs, where each student can access a dedicated electronic device to enhance their learning experiences.
In consultation with their community, schools
decide whether a 1-to-1 program is appropriate to support their students.
One-to-one models
Schools that decide to implement 1-to-1 programs undertake research and consultation to decide how the program will be implemented. This includes consideration of a range of models, the scope of implementation within the school, how devices are funded and owned, and how devices are selected.
Further advice
For parents, families and communities
Parents, families and community organisations (including vendors) are encouraged to contact their local school to discuss its student device program. School contact information is available through the
schools directory.
If your school is using the bring your own device (BYOx) technical service, BYOx Link to connect student BYOx devices to the school network, a range of
information sheets and instructions are available. These information sheets will help students and parents/carers to connect devices to the network. If you are unsure if your student uses BYOx Link, please check with your school.
For schools
The department provides advice to schools about how to investigate, initiate, implement and integrate 1-to-1 student device programs and offer a range of supporting technologies services and resources. Staff can access these through OnePortal.
