Purpose

To build teacher and school leader awareness, understanding and confidence to work in a State Delivered Kindergarten (SDK) – early childhood or the Special Education setting through the provision of Teacher Relief Scheme (TRS) funding and logistical support enabling dedicated time for professional observation and reflection and the formation of peer relationships between less-experienced and more-experienced colleagues.

Duration of program

1 April 2022 to 30 March 2023

Eligibility

Queensland state school principals, aspiring principals, teachers and teacher aides who are working in or would like to work in early childhood or Queensland state school teachers, aspiring/existing school leaders, teacher aides, advisory visiting teachers of hearing impaired or visually impaired students and teacher aides with an interest in working in special education.

Allocation of funds

The program includes Teacher Relief Scheme (TRS) funding for staff who attend an approved professional development learning activity. It will also include TRS for the host school. Funds are paid at the current rate of TRS.

Travel, meals and accommodation charges, conference or course charges if applicable, and professional library, subscription or membership charges, will be funded.

Funding must relate specifically to an identified professional development activity.

Funds are paid in advance for days identified for observation and work-shadowing. Funds will be transferred from Learning and Professional Development (L&PD) to relevant schools once professional development activity and time has been established. As the payments are made in advance, a recoupment may be made if the participant cancels or does not attend the planned activity.

Early Childhood and Education Improvement (ECEI) or State Schools Disability and Inclusion (SS-D&I), and the Learning and Professional Development (L&PD) team will partner to attract participants and determine participating schools and industry conferences.

Payment details

Amounts and timing of payments will be determined by L&PD in partnership with schools to fund activity.

Participants would then be expected to submit a proposed learning plan with required approvals to be considered.

Schools do not need to apply for this funding. Payments will be determined and coordinated by L&PD.
